About Dependable Heating | Truckee, CA HVAC & Heating Company
Built for Truckee, Not for Sea Level
Most heating companies work off a generic playbook. We don’t, because Truckee doesn’t run on generic conditions. At nearly 6,800 feet, gas furnaces and water heaters behave differently than the same equipment installed in Sacramento or Reno. Combustion efficiency drops, orifice sizing matters more, and a system tuned for sea level can run inefficient or fault out for no obvious reason. We built our approach to heating repair and installation around that reality from day one, adjusting gas pressure, checking orifice sizing, and tuning for proper derating on every job, not as an afterthought when something goes wrong, but as the starting point.
That local focus is really the whole story of who we are. We’re a Truckee-based heating and cooling company serving homeowners, cabin owners, and businesses across Tahoe Donner, Glenshire, Donner Lake, and the North Shore. We work on furnaces, heat pumps, mini-splits, boilers, and radiant hydronic systems, because a single street in this town can have all three types of heating within a few houses of each other, and a company that only knows one system isn’t much use here.
Why We Dos This Work
Truckee winters aren’t forgiving. A furnace that quits at 6,800 feet in January isn’t a minor inconvenience, it’s pipes freezing, it’s a cabin sitting empty and unprotected, it’s a family with no backup plan. We started this company because too many homeowners and property managers in this area were stuck waiting on technicians who didn’t understand altitude-adjusted combustion, dual-fuel switchover logic, or why snow piling against a vent termination can shut down a perfectly good furnace. We wanted to be the crew that actually knows why these systems fail here, not just how to fix a furnace in general.
What Makes Our Approach Different
We diagnose for the climate, not just the equipment. Snow-blocked intake and exhaust vents, frozen condensate lines, heat pump coils stuck in defrost, these are seasonal patterns we see every year in this region, and recognizing them fast is the difference between a same-day fix and a cold house for a week.
We work across every system Truckee homes actually use. Gas and electric furnaces, cold-climate heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, hydronic boilers, radiant floor heat, snowmelt systems, wall heaters, and electric baseboard. If it’s in a Truckee mechanical room, we service it.
We understand propane, not just natural gas. A large share of homes in the Truckee-Donner area run on propane rather than natural gas, and the two behave differently, especially at altitude. We size and service both correctly.
We think about second homes and empty cabins differently. A lot of our calls come from owners who aren’t on-site full time. We check for frozen pipes, short-cycling furnaces, and failed freeze protection as standard practice, and we set up remote monitoring where it makes sense, so a no-heat fault gets caught before it becomes a burst pipe.
We serve homes and businesses. From single-family houses in Glenshire to commercial properties around town, our heating, cooling, and refrigeration work covers residential and commercial jobs alike.
Who We Serve
We work throughout Tahoe Donner, Glenshire, Donner Lake, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Incline Village, North Lake Tahoe, and the Truckee–Reno corridor. Whether it’s an older A-frame cabin near Donner Lake running its original hydronic system or a newer Tahoe Donner build with a cold-climate heat pump, we’ve likely worked on something close to it before.
